NAWC Annual Fly-In

Each spring NAWC members gather in our nation’s capital to address issues critical to the water industry at the NAWC Annual Congressional Fly-In. This event is an opportunity for representatives of the investor-owned water and wastewater private service industry from across the country to come to Washington to meet with elected officials. NAWC members bring critical issues associated with water and wastewater provision to the attention of Congress as well as provide valuable insight and expertise on issues of interest to elected officials.

Nearly 50 NAWC members made time in their busy schedules to take part in the 2009 NAWC Congressional Fly-In.  The great turnout allowed us to schedule more than 200 meetings with elected officials representing every region of the country and sitting on virtually every committee of importance to NAWC and our members.

In addition to educating Congress on the private water service industry and our many services and abilities, several legislative issues of importance were discussed. Primarily, we discussed water infrastructure financing. NAWC members expressed general support for the State Revolving Loan Funds (SRF), but their discontent with the continued inequity that excludes private water service providers from the Clean Water SRF.  NAWC members also discussed support for H.R. 537, a proposal by Rep. Pascrell (D-N.J.) that would bring water projects out from under the state volume cap on Private Activity Bonds.

Future Fly-In Participation
The next fly-in will take place in spring of 2010.
