NAWC Applauds Member Companies’ Environmentally Sustainable Practices
Aquarion Water Company, The Nature Conservancy partner to create water management plan
Washington, D.C. — The National Association of Water Companies (NAWC) today applauded Aquarion Water Company for its efforts to develop a sustainable water management plan along the Saugatuck River in Connecticut. Aquarion has joined forces with The Nature Conservancy in a ground-breaking partnership that will benefit both human needs and the ecological process by developing a Flow Management Plan to encourage freshwater ecology and clean drinking water downstream.
“Our members are dedicated to developing practices that utilize water in environmentally sustainable ways,” said NAWC Executive Director Peter Cook. “The NAWC commends the efforts of both Aquarion Water Company and The Nature Conservancy for creating a partnership that will improve the public water supply while supporting diverse ecosystems along the Saugatuck River for generations to come.”
As a reflection of member interest and involvement in the use of green infrastructure, NAWC is a signatory on the Green Infrastructure Statement of Support signed by nearly 30 organizations to advocate for the use of green infrastructure as one way to address the nation’s clean water challenges.
“Many NAWC members have established proactive management programs that have successfully reduced water waste and created healthier environments,” said Cook. “We are proud to be a part of the green solution.”
