National Association of Water
Companies Commends EPA Agency Hosting Essential Conference
on Water: Paying for Sustainable Water Infrastructure: Innovations
for the 21st Century
ATLANTA, GA – The National Association
of Water Companies (NAWC) today released the following statement
from Peter Cook, executive director, regarding EPA’s
conference, “Paying for Sustainable Water Infrastructure:
Innovations for the 21st Century.”
“The National Association
of Water Companies commends the EPA for tackling the
important issue of water infrastructure replacement.
For the first time, EPA is bringing together hundreds
of stakeholders from all levels of government to tackle
these issues. Participants will be searching for new,
creative solutions as well as discussing how current
tools can be improved. This sort of open and bias-free
dialogue is just what is needed.
“It is encouraging that EPA is embracing the idea
of bringing water and wastewater projects out from under
state volume caps on private activity bonds (PABs). By
championing the provision in the administration’s
proposed FY ’08 budget and organizing this important
conference, the EPA is demonstrating that they are serious
about this issue, and providing the appropriate leadership
to determine solutions.
“EPA’s conference is
designed to explore promising new approaches to financing
infrastructure. Given the magnitude of our challenge,
it is essential that the participants make every effort
to identify the most promising solutions for our current
fiscal environment. Participants must also assure that
the local decision makers fully understand the strengths
and weaknesses of all solutions in order to make the
best choices for their customers.”
